Title: Generalized S-procedure and Control Applications
Abstract: The S-procedure replaces an inequality condition
with multiple inequality constraints by an unconstrained
inequality with multipliers. The benefit is that the latter
condition is often easier to verify than the former. However,
the S-procedure is conservative in general in the sense that
the latter is only a sufficient condition for the former.
When it is also necessary, the S-procedure is called lossless.
In applications, it is very important to know exactly when
the S-procedure is lossless. In this talk, the classical
S-procedures developed in the 1970s are first generalized
and then a necessary and sufficient condition for the
generalized S-procedure to be lossless is obtained. As an
application of the S-procedure, we will focus on the robust
stability analysis and synthesis within the framework of
polynomially parameter-dependent Lyapunov functions. Exact
conditions are obtained for the analysis and synthesis in
terms of linear matrix inequalities.
